The post may require flexible working, including long shifts and weekend work as the service develops.

Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust provides acute hospital services to the people of North East Essex. The Trust employs over 3,200 staff with most services provided from one main acute hospital site in Colchester. We have exciting plans to join together with Ipswich hospital in the near future which promises to provide new opportunities for both staff and patient services.

Recent developments in Colchester meanwhile have created an exciting opportunity for 2 specialist therapists with a special interest in older people - one band 7 and one band 6 - to work across developing frailty areas – one occupational therapist and one physiotherapist. We will be interviewing for both grades and professions at the same time to allow us to choose the best candidates in the two roles.

The Therapy Department at Colchester General Hospital provides services primarily in Colchester Hospital in reaching via strong links into the community.

As a part of a strong committed team of Senior Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists you will be involved in leading the inpatient therapy team across frailty /older people services. It is a clinically focussed role with every opportunity to influence how the service is delivered and developed. You will be working within a large team with an excellent reputation and have opportunities to further your expertise working alongside other Specialist Therapists/ Specialist Nurses & Consultant Geriatricians, Extended Scope Physiotherapist for older people/frailty and Nurse Consultant for older people/frailty. You will be working to improve outcomes for frail older people through proactive early assessment and management of complex co-morbidities, preventing unnecessary hospital admissions, supporting early discharge and accessing appropriate community services to enhance independent living.

You will work as an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team, providing highly specialist comprehensive geriatric assessment and interventions for older frail adults with acute on chronic complex conditions from presentation in the emergency department through to discharge home.

We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic and experienced clinicians to work closely with the MDT developing the frailty services in Colchester – planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the service. You will need to have specialist knowledge and experience of working with older people. You will need excellent communication skills and have the ability to work independently and as a part of a team.

In return you will get support and opportunities for professional development through a structured CPD programme.
