BAND 5/6 RUN-THROUGH CONSIDERED
ESSEX COUNTY HOSPITAL
FULL TIME 37.5 hours per week
We are looking for a full time Band 6 Orthoptist to work as part of our friendly team, consisting of five full time Orthoptists supported by administrators, seven consultant Ophthalmologists, their teams, and an onsite Optometry department. We work a 9 day fortnight which gives you one weekday a fortnight free.
The position is based at Essex County Hospital in Colchester moving to a new purpose built department in 2018. There are outreach clinics to special education needs schools, the children development centre, Clacton, Halstead and Harwich. There is a wide variety of patients with half the case load being adults. The post holder will participate in the surgical discussion, pre-operative assessment, assist with Botulinum Toxin procedures and adjustable sutures.
Ophthalmic doctors and optometrists staff most clinics, but for some clinics the orthoptist will be working single-handed.
We are committed to CPD and allocate time for this. We are actively involved in teaching Orthoptic undergraduates, pre-registration optometrists, junior doctors and student nurses.
A degree or diploma in Orthoptics and state registration with the HCPC is essential. Post-graduate experience is required with excellent communication skills and an interest in teaching or working with special educational needs children.
Interviews will be held on the afternoon of Thursday 08th of March.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
