LOCUM CONSULTANT - ONCOLOGY

COLCHESTER HOSPITAL UNIVERSITY FOUNDATION TRUSTApplications are invited for a Locum Consultant Oncologist, with an interest in Colorectal and CNS Oncology, at Colchester Hospital University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Colchester Hospital is a medium sized District General Hospital caring for patients across North East Essex. These are exciting times for us as we have recently had a very welcomed CQC report; which has highlighted the dedication and commitment of our staff. We are also working collaboratively with Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust with a view to merge fully in the summer of 2018 which provides excellent opportunities to all of our staff and ultimately potentially better outcomes for all of our patients, every day.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to play a key role in the transformation of Oncology. You will see a varied and mixed case load and will receive full support from the whole team. You will receive regular learning opportunities and you will participate in regular MDT meetings.

You will be contracted for up to 10 PAs per week and will participate in the on call rota. You will receive an on-call supplement appropriate for the rota.

The Department of Oncology is extremely dynamic and innovative. It consists of 7 other Oncologists, 1 Associate Specialist, 1 Specialty Doctor, 2 Specialist Registrars, 6 ward based F2s/CMTs, a Chemotherapy Nurse consultant and a team of CNSs. You will also work with the Radiotherapy Team consisting of 1 Superintendent, 1 Deputy Superintendent, 10 Band 7 Advanced Practitioners, 2 Macmillan Information Radiographers, 3 Band 7 on-treatment review Nurses, 2 Band 6 Senior Nurses and a Band 5 Nurse.

A new 5 bunker state of the art Radiotherapy Centre opened in June 2014 at Colchester General Hospital. Colchester Hospitals Charity has fundraised for a new chemotherapy department and clinical haematology suite that will be built adjoining the new Radiotherapy Centre, creating one Cancer Centre for our patients. It will provide state-of-the-art facilities in which to deliver first class medical care, alongside a range of complementary and alternative therapies, in a purpose-built sympathetic environment. This will enable the best possible holistic and multi-disciplinary approach to the care of all cancer patients and their loved ones. It is anticipated building work will start in 2018.

Colchester has affordable modern housing, some of the best schools in the Country (grammar and comprehensive schools) and is very conveniently located near Stansted and Southend on Sea Airports with the bright lights of London only a 50 minute train ride away! The road network means that the Midlands and the North are easy accessible.

Candidates must be eligible for full GMC registration.
