Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Urological Surgery. The appointee will provide a general urological service but can develop a special interest to complement the existing consultant body.

The appointee will be joining five consultants in the Urology Department. Half of the current consultants have a mainly endourological practice including PCNL/ECIRS and HoLEP. while the other half have a mainly oncological/laparoscopic practice. There is room to develop a subspecialty interest in paediatrics, female urology or andrology.

The department has invested in modern equipment including several full laparoscopic kits, a 100W Holmium laser, flexible ureterorenoscopes as well as standard and ultra mini PCNL sets. We have template and TRUS biopsy sets including 2 trans-rectal ultrasound machines.
The Unit has dedicated day case and inpatient Urology theatres as well as beds for elective surgery.

Each consultant has a dedicated mid-grade fellow or registrar. We have a EWTD/2016 contract compliant fully staffed mid-grade on call rota. The appointee will participate in a 1 in 6 prospective on-call rota. When on-call, consultant activity is reduced to allow assessment and treatment of emergency patients. Cover is provided by mutual arrangement with colleagues to allow off site activity to take place.

We are supported by four cancer specialist nurses, two advanced nurse practitioners and four nurses running urological diagnostics.

Qualifications required are FRCS (Urology) or equivalent, a minimum of four years surgical training plus three year specialist urological training, full GMC registration with a licence to practice and inclusion on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council or being within 6 months of CCT at interview date.

Short-listed candidates will be invited to visit the hospital and other departments relevant to the appointment and prior to interview, to meet relevant local Consultants.

Travelling expenses will be reimbursed to short-listed candidates who subsequently attend for interview.
