An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dietitian with a genuine interest in paediatrics to work within the community of North East Essex to provide a service to children on Home Enteral nutrition and in outpatient clinics at Colchester General Hospital.
This is a new post secured through a successful business case to improve the quality of the service to children in the community receiving home enteral nutrition. You will have responsibility for a caseload of home enterally fed children by providing a domiciliary visit service, working alongside specialist paediatric dietitians and the children’s community nursing team; run a busy caseload of outpatient clinics and when required, cover the children’s ward.
The role will include service development, participation in clinical audit to monitor the effectiveness and clinical outcomes of the enhanced home enteral feeding service and working with specialist dietitians to develop and implement policies and procedures across the paediatric dietetic service.
The ideal candidate will have 2 years’ experience in clinical dietetics with at least 6 months experience of paediatric dietetics. The post holder must have excellent communication and leadership skills, be flexible and be able to use their own initiative to develop the service.
Applications would be considered from those looking to work part time and also from applicants wishing to combine an acute paediatric caseload with some community work as adjustments can be made in the team.
The Trust has approximately 200 children and adolescents with Type 1 diabetes; one children’s ward and a level 2 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The enteral feeding caseload consists of approximately 90 children, with a range of primary conditions which are shared between the paediatric team dependent on clinical specialism.
The Paediatric Dietitian is an integral part of the MDT and is involved with audit, research projects, teaching and training all health professionals. The team also has dedicated input to cystic fibrosis, oncology, allergy and gastroenterology clinics. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn and develop their practice in specialist areas.
The Nutrition and Dietetic Department are a friendly department of 15wte dietitians, Nutrition Nurses and admin staff. CPD and personal development are actively encouraged. We train dietetic students for the University of Hertfordshire.
