The post will be for one year in the first instance.
The appointee will primarily work as part of a team comprising of a growing tea of Acute Physicians (Aps) in looking after patients on EAU whilst providing additional support for the development of services within Acute Medicine (e.g. ambulatory emergency are service, A&E in-reach) and also providing senior cover in addition to participating in the Registrar on-call rota.
There is a ‘hands-on’ Consultant presence on the EAU throughout the day on weekdays, with early reviews of newly referred patients occurring throughout the day. EAU also incorporates a new ambulatory care area, where patients receive treatment or undergo investigations on a day-case basis; suitable new emergency referrals are assessed here, and follow-up appointment can be arranged. In addition to the EAU, the acute medicine team is also responsible for patients in the short stay ward.
Responsibilities will also include the supervision of junior staff and involvement in a regular teaching programme as well as participating in weekly meetings and monthly audit meetings.
